2017 was a very special year for me. I am incredibly thankful to all my clients who believe in me and my photography. I truly enjoyed every session and met so many great people. I hope to see many of my clients this year too and make new friends as well.
Here is a selection from our sessions in 2017, which makes my heart sing.
If this style of photography appeals to you then do get in touch, I’d love to hear from you. At the moment I am booking sessions for Spring 2018! You can find more details here: http://www.ramanava.com/booking.html
Not so long ago I saw an article „How many summers do we have?“ No it was not a scary article about the life and it's meaning! This article was about summers we are spending with our kids before they grew up. I think that every parent knows that they are actually not so many, but of course we do not think about it all the time.
Summer is an incredibly special time of the year when you have kids (even if you cannot stand the heat like I do!). Not only it is a perfect season to potty train, it is time when we connect as a family and have adventures.
For children summer is endless. There are so many things to explore and experience and there are so many ways to grow and change. By the begin of the new school year you usually have a partially new kid (who needs clothes and shoes in a different size). But for me the best thing about summer is that there are so many days we really spend ALL together. And you know what? This very special first, second or tenth summer with your children is just about to begin!
You should really take time to feel how long, slow, funny and precious these days are. The days you spend tickling and giggling will keep you warm for the rest of the year and beyond. Make a list of fun things your kids like to do in summer (and things that you liked to do as a child!) and try to have these moments captured. And do not think too hard. The most memorable things are always the most simple: having fun in the water, building sand castles, playing ball, eating ice cream, riding a bicycle, climbing a tree and running, running, running. I do my best to capture those simple joys during my summer sessions, because they matter most!
Summer photographs will transport your kids into their most bright childhood days over and over again. And they will do this in three, ten and in fifty years. And these memories will be about the time you spent all together.
And you will always be able to recall all these precious so similar and so different summers when your kids were little. You will have a wonderful story to go through again and again seeing how your children were growing and how their summer adventures evolved.
This will be my seventh summer as a mum and third summer as a family photographer and I already have an impressive summer fun collection!
Summer is definitely a great time to take pictures, great but hard. On the one hand there is this endless light (especially if you are in Scandinavia - we spent a couple of summers there) but on the other hand the light is almost always hard. The hard light is the light that gives you strong highlights and strong shadows – very tough situation if you are aiming for a delicate portrait. And on sunny summer days that is what you have to face almost all day long.
To succeed with summer portraits of your children, try to take pictures early in the morning or late in the evening when the sun is low. OR find a good solid shade. This will let you make beautiful portraits even on the sunniest of the days.
You can also learn to use the hard light for your benefit. Strong shadows and strong highlights are great for the action shots – so do not be afraid to take pictures of your children running, jumping and playing in the water in a strong sunlight. These will be really dynamic and impressive pictures.
Summer photography is really fun and divers and captures some of the best childhood memories. But will my kids really have fun in front of the camera? Will we look natural? Is it not too stressful to jump and run in the heat with a bunch of kids (one toddler is also enough to get into a marathon feeling)? These are the usual worries every parent has, when trying to book a photographer or when trying to capture her own children. But do not worry there is a secret ingredient how to look natural in front of the camera and have fun. And I will be revealing it in my next post! I will show you how to avoid stress not only during the photo session with a photographer, but also when you are making your family pictures yourself.
Please let me know in the comments what are your favourite things about summer and what challenges do you meet while trying to capture them! Thank you!

We had this lovely session last year in Botanical Garden (Geneva), which became a sort of outdoor studio for me. And oh my it was so cute! There were singing and dancing and so much cuddle and some cries of course and even a duck hunt! It was our second session together and we already had the strong connection between us. During the first session we discovered that we share some friends, what we did not know before! It is strange but this already happened to me a couple of times! This lovely family moved to California last year and when I go overseas they are absolutely on my list to stop by and say hi!
Here you can see how tiny theese cute babies used to be!

A beautiful family session on a beautiful May day! I have been taking pictures of this family for two years! This is such a joy to see these kids growing:
I am so greatful for your trust and all the love that you let me see every time! And thank you so much for these kind words:
"I am completely blown away by the photos of our shoot together! You capture all the possible love and joy in each frame. No words can express my gratitude!" - Nadia
"Thank you Thank you! Thank you! I love the way you capture the photos….especially Max you really can see that he had the best day ever, which he did!" - Nadia
Would You Like To Have a Session With Me in Botanical Garden?
I took hundreds of lovely pictures and have hardly shown them. Here are some which I really enjoy! So much love and light! Thank you and hope to see you next year!
I think it is time to start getting into the festive end-of-the-year mood! I have been taking your family portraits for two years now and I cannot express how happy and overwhelmed I am with the results! I decided to organize a small gift giving action to thank you for your trust and support! So I have randomly chosen some of my most favourite pictures. I really could not chose all of them because the list would be too long. And of course I also could not chose photographs for which I do not have a model release.
So here are the rules!
Please vote for your favourite picture in the comment below and share this post on a social media. The photographs which will get most of the votes will be printed as 20x30 cm high quality prints and will be sent to the models. I am thinking of having three winners but we will see! Thank you for taking part in this fun project! Cheers!
It was my first year of being a family photographer! Really I cannot believe that I managed it! It was truly a balance masterpiece for me and my husband – where would I be without him? But look at me now! Here I am (filled with sweets in Germany) writing my first year report! I met 54 families and made them my own! I really loved and smiled at every picture taken (even at those that did not work out!) This such an unbelievable and overwhelming feeling that you trusted me your time and showed me your love! And now my pictures will stay in your family story forever! Incredible, right? Thank you my dears! You made this year so very special for me! And even if we sometimes had a not so smooth experience working together I am still very thankful for your trust and honesty and I will improve thinking of you! And all of your families will stay in my heart and become a part of my family story too! I hope we will see each other next year and in the years to come! Hooray! Here is a small selection of my favourites!
*too many exclamations but this is how I feel!!!!!!!
