Capture and Connect Challenge
Task 3 - CHOOSE THE RIGHT PERSPECTIVE
I am a small person, while my husband is very tall and I often say that we live in two different worlds.
Of course it is just a joke, but it really makes a huge difference from what level you are taking a photograph.
I almost always try to get higher when I am taking pictures of a tall person and I almost always get down when I am taking pictures of a child.
There are some exceptions of course, but in 90 % of cases you should be at your model's level.
First of all being at the level of your subject keeps the proportions right.
If you stand and take a picture of a child who is close to you, her head will look bigger and her body and legs will look shorter than they actually are.
Second, a photograph looks much more intimate if taken from your child's point of view, because it shows how the world appears to her.
WHERE ARE MY TOES?
I always say that you should avoid all things in between „a little bit of cropping here“, „a little bit higher there“ etc.
So you either crop things strongly or not at all and you either go so low, that you are at your subject's level or you go REALLY above your subject – as if you are taking a picture of your toes.
I do love taking picture from above and there are many good reasons, why you should try as well.
1. Taking pictures from up really captures the perspective of a parent. We look down on our kids a lot :) Only works with small kids of course! The blue thing below is my t-shirt.

2. It let you take great detail shots of kids activities. When you are above, you can see exactly, what they are doing.
3. It let you eliminate the clutter. You can take pictures on the floor, on the bed, on the lawn and ignore all things around.
4. It IS flattering and makes your subject look really sweet.
YOUR TASK Nr. THREE
(TO DO TODAY & ON WEEKEND)
1. Take several pictures of the same situation from different perspectives
First, capture your kids being busy from further away – wide shot, be on their level. We were doing this since Monday!
Second, come closer, stay on their level – you can change the side if you wish, going around them. If you crop someone/something, do it with confidence!
Third, try to get picture from above. You might need to get on a chair-bed-table. Be careful, do not fall! Photographers do fall sometimes.
2. Continue your quarantine journal!
Make a list of things you like most about your kids, pets and husband(s) right now.
And ask your kids and husband what they like most about each family member.
You can than hide surprise notes for everyone around the house – or play a game „Guess who is it about“.
Everyone loves hearing nice things about themselves. Even when they act, as if they do not care.
You can use the worksheets, to keep all your notes together (see the email!).
When you are done with the tasks - you can send me your results and share them in a facebook group.
So I can give you the feedback.
The feedback is coming on Monday!
