Work-Life Balance For Mothers. Some Unconventional Solutions. | by Geneva Family Photographer30/7/2020 I have three kids and I try to work full time on my small business. I often have a feeling, that the work-life balance is some kind of a unicorn! And I am constantly trying to catch it, but I am only able to get that close! However I still have some thoughts about this beast, which I would like to share with you! We all have different characters and temperaments, so the way we handle this balance would be different for everyone, I guess! And I think that it is really important to realize, that there is no „one-fit-all“ solution. So my tips will only work for those, who are more or less like me! (1) DO NOT BLAME YOURSELF FOR WORKING There is a workaholic inside of me, so for me switching from LIFE to WORK is much easier, than switching from WORK to LIFE. It was absolutely not a problem, before I got kids, but when kids came to our life I was often blaming myself for wanting to work and not wanting to build a tower out of wooden blocks. So for me a huge step was just to accept it and get some inner peace. But I am also a kind of person, who can easily work herself to death, and here we come to the next point. >>> (2) DO WHAT YOU LOVE For me the only way to dive out of WORK is, when there is something really great awaiting for me in LIFE. So in order to be present for my family often enough, I try to do things with them, which I LOVE! So yes not the things, that THEY LOVE, but the things that I LOVE! Because otherwise I will just continue thinking about work! On the very top of my list are WALKS & BOOKS. So I am easily giving up my work to go for a walk or to read and discuss a good book. Having a glass of vine with my dear friends is also quite close to the top! (3) TWEAK YOUR PLAN UNTIL IT WORKS I am a huge believer, that a good plan gives you a true freedom and peace of mind. But you should really make a plan which is good for YOU! As it was beautifully put together by Stephen Covey „The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities“. Absolutely! So even if your plan looks really weird to everyone else, stick with it if you feel, it is the right one for YOU! I have some not-so-common solutions, which are a part of my plan. Here are just a few: I WORK SEVEN DAYS PER WEEK It really works better for me, than weekdays + weekends schema. This way I work less hours everyday and I feel OK, when I am not working, because I know that I will continue tomorrow. And though I do not have normal days off, I have weeks off! I always take one week off during school breaks. Plus two weeks in summer. I ALWAYS TAKE MY KIDS FOR LUNCH Yes, this breaks my day into two parts, but I really love to see them at the middle of the day. I miss them! * and I am glad I can bring them back to school for few more hours! I STAY UNPLUDGED AS MUCH AS I CAN I try to spend not more than one hour per day checking my emails and making phone calls. I hardly surf on the internet. *This is TRUE!!! This makes me so much more focused on my WORK and on my LIFE! Thank you for reading! Do YOU Work On Something With Great Passion?
